Description

This distributor is designed according to the Venturi principle in fluid mechanics. It has three main features:

(1) A constricted inlet port;

(2) Size of the narrowest part of the inlet;

(3) Exit branch.

According to the continuity equation and the Bernoulli equation, when the refrigerant fluid flows through the constricted inlet of (1), the flow velocity begins to increase and the pressure begins to decrease; when the refrigerant liquid is at the narrowest part of the inlet (2), the flow velocity is the maximum and the pressure is the lowest; when the fluid smoothly transitions to the outlet branch (3), the flow velocity begins to decrease and the pressure begins to increase, which is completely an utilization of the Venturi principle. The Venturi distributor directs fluid from (1) to (3) by its own characteristics. There is little turbulence in the fluid during this process. Therefore, the fluid pressure drops little and is nearly equal from the inlet to the branch outlet. The pressure drop in a Venturi distributor is mainly due to the friction and slightly turbulent flow between the distributor wall and the boundary layer of the fluid. The Venturi distributor is a low pressure drop distributor because it has little pressure drop and smooth fluid flow lines.
